FAQs

I don’t have much spare time. Can I still help?

We couldn’t provide our services without the support of our volunteers. Opportunities are available for both regular, weekly help and one-off projects.  You can give as much time as you have to spare.

Where can I volunteer?

We have opportunities across the North of England – in our centres and in the community in Knaresborough, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and the North East and also at Henshaws College near Harrogate.

What sort of opportunities do you have?

We have a whole range of volunteering opportunities available.  You could become a volunteer driver, an IT trainer, a befriender or even someone’s gym partner!  Or you could volunteer with our fundraising team.

Do I need any qualifications or experience?

We welcome volunteers with different skills and backgrounds. You don’t have to have previous experience of working with people with disabilities.  All we ask for is your enthusiasm and commitment. All of our volunteers undergo an enhanced criminal records bureau check.

What will I get out of it?

Volunteering doesn’t just benefit us – it benefits you too!  Whether you want to improve your skills, meet new people, enhance your CV, build your confidence or just get a buzz from helping others – you can achieve this through volunteering.

We will reimburse your travel expenses and provide you with Visual Impairment Awareness Training and any other training relevant to your role.
